Established in 1959, Aylesbury High School has grown to today’s capacity of over 1200 pupils; a growth that has required regular expansion and refurbishment of the campus facilities.

Our Role

We were appointed to undertake mechanical, electrical and public health designs to modernise and upgrade the facilities serving a 120m2 science laboratory/classroom. The scope of our responsibilities also required the strip out of some existing MEP services and modification to others; most notably these included the fume cupboard, and linking the gas/water desk supplies to an emergency shut-off system. All new services, such as sophisticated AV systems, were carefully integrated into the school’s existing M&E infrastructure.

Working closely with the architects, we undertook a thermal study and subsequent upgrade of the building fabric to improve its performance. In concert with other new energy saving features such as an MVHR unit, LED lighting and intelligent lighting controls, we improved the energy efficiency of this teaching facility.

The Outcome

In order to minimise disruption of the academic calendar this was an exceptionally fast turn-around scheme, undertaken within two weeks. All works were carried out to Education Building Bulletin standards.
