In our latest video, the M&E engineering team share some quick tips from what they have learnt from delivering complex projects.

Our latest video brings together several members of our Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering team; Jack, Grant, Mike H and Charlotte, to share the lessons they have learned from delivering complex projects.

The purpose of the video is simple, to pick the brains of our experts and distil their insights into a series of quick tips. Each contributor responds to the same question:

“What is the one lesson you have learned from delivering complex M&E engineering projects?”

Rather than a technical breakdown, the video offers practical advice shaped by real world experience. These are the kinds of lessons that emerge only after navigating the intricacies of design, coordination and delivery, lessons that can help others avoid common pitfalls and make better decisions.

The theme explored in the video reflects the breadth of considerations that underpin successful M&E engineering. These include:

  • Concentrate early on the risk elements of the project – This allows for early engagement and communication with stakeholders, and any future problems that might have to be tackled.
  • Competency – Make sure team, individuals and business are skilled and experienced, and keep good detailed records
  • Get Client end goals early on in the design process – This ensures that designs are both practical and efficient for the client’s needs.
  • Know you audience  – Make ideas simple and easy to digest, you don’t need to overcomplicate things.
  • Coordination – Get people to understand what they are working on and how they will work together, to get a smoother work process.

Successful complex M&E projects are underpinned by collaboration. Strong relationships across the wider project team help unlock better solutions. Early engagement with stakeholders, contractors and suppliers builds trust and creates space for innovation and shared success. All part of the Brookbanks’ difference.

This video is part of our ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge and promoting best practice across the industry. We understand that the most valuable insights often come from lived experience, from the decisions made under pressure, the lessons learned from setbacks and the successes achieved through teamwork and perseverance.

Whether you are an engineer, project manager, client or stakeholder, we hope these quick tips offer something useful to take away. We invite you to watch the video and reflect on how these lessons might apply to your own work.

Mitigating the Impact of Global Uncertainty

April 30, 2026

Rising geopolitical tension does not affect development viability in isolation, but through increasing pressure on energy prices, supply chains and the cost of energy‑intensive materials. Where schemes are progressed on assumptions made under more stable conditions, these pressures can quickly challenge margins, appraisals and deliverability, particularly in a flat housing market. Our article looks at how developers can respond to build cost volatility in a more informed and proportionate way. Drawing on our specialists' experience, it explores how early coordination, design‑led value engineering and integrated decision‑making can help manage cost risk, protect scheme viability and avoid short‑term measures that compromise long‑term quality and value.

Brookbanks Webinar: Comprehensive Coordination for Environmental Impact Assessments

April 23, 2026

In this webinar we explore how Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) can be better coordinated to support clearer, more robust planning decisions. Annabel Le Lohé and Katherine Peers set out how EIAs are intended to function, before focusing on the practical considerations that influence how effective an assessment is in practice, from early briefing decisions through to long‑term delivery. The session was aimed at those working across planning, development and technical disciplines who are involved in preparing, coordinating or contributing to EIAs, particularly on large and complex schemes.
