Koko – Camden Palace dates back to 1900 and in 2015 hosted the last of Princes London Gigs. Following this a scheme was developed to recreate the historical elements of the site and as part of this we were instructed to design a members club / boutique hotel at the rear of the site. The development involved Historic England in the recreation of the existing Hope and Anchor pub and creation of a multi-space music venue covering jazz, pop and soul.

Our Role

Following a fire in 2020 the main venue underwent a complete refurbishment and we developed the building services for this grand scheme including the detailed lighting, stage theatrics, customised stage rig set-up and a stage / venue ventilation system to cater for 1500 people.

The design had to incorporate the intricacies of the Historic England requirements whilst also being cognisant of the modern day requirements of a concert venue including hosts, broadcasters and performing acts in relation to IT, Lighting, ventilation and acoustics.

We had a double role on this project acting for the Client developer as Stage 4 designers and, with a Chinese wall between, also for the main contractor as detailed M&E designers.

The Outcome

The scheme reopened in April 2022 with a completely redeveloped main venue, 16 exclusive entertainment spaces and an interior paying homage to the original Theatre style venue whilst also including a modern twist on service and entertainment.
