At Brookbanks, value elevation isn’t just a principle - it’s a core part of how we deliver smarter, more sustainable outcomes for our clients. Our ethos is built around a proactive, collaborative approach that identifies opportunities to reduce costs, mitigate risk, and enhance project outcomes without compromising on quality or functionality.

What Value Elevation Means to Us

This ethos is embedded across all our service lines – from infrastructure planning and engineering to environmental consultancy and project management .Value elevation goes beyond traditional cost-cutting. It means:

  1. Challenging assumptions early in the design and planning process.
  2. Optimising technical solutions to reduce over-specification.
  3. Identifying commercial efficiencies that align with client goals.
  4. Maintaining margins while delivering better outcomes for developers and stakeholders.
  5. Thinking outside the box to design innovative, optimal solutions.

2025 Year-to-Date Impact

So far in 2025, Brookbanks has delivered £[insert total] in cost savings across [insert number] clients and [insert number] projects. These savings have been achieved through a combination of design rationalisation, procurement strategy, and early-stage risk mitigation.

Examples of Value in Action

Here are a few standout examples of how our teams have elevated value across different sectors:

Drainage Infrastructure – £3.4M Saved

An outline application proposed a combination of permeable paving, swales and filter drains alongside traditional below gravity pipework and storage structures. Through our review we designed out the requirements for over 10,000m3 of below ground structures into above ground SuDS features, saving our client £3.4m.

Above ground SuDS features not only provided our client with significant cost savings, but also in delivering additional levels of source control, water quality treatment and amenity space for the community.

Electrical Capacity – £2M Saved + over 100 Hours

We managed to negotiate improved electricity point of connections for a consortium site which substantially reduced the extent of the offsite works required to bring electrical capacity onto the site.

This saved £2m in offsite works, over 100 hours of time, and reduced the time it would take to bring capacity to the site by over 12 months.

Access Designs – £1.5M Saved

We were asked to review the access proposals for a client’s site, where the Transport Assessment originally proposed the construction of two roundabouts for secondary access points. We challenged this design requirement, achieving a downgrade to priority access junctions.

This saved £1.5M in build costs and hours in the time required to achieve technical approval.

From Thousands to Millions: Every Saving Counts

Our value elevation efforts have ranged from £15,000 on a minor access road redesign to over £1.5 million on complex infrastructure packages. Regardless of scale, our focus remains the same: delivering better value for our clients.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the second half of 2025, Brookbanks remains committed to pushing the boundaries of what value means in development. With every project, we aim to elevate outcomes – not just meet expectations.

Podcast Episode #17: Moving Places, Managing Noise

May 20, 2026

As development sites become more constrained and expectations around placemaking continue to rise, the interaction between transport planning and acoustics is playing an increasingly important role in successful design. In our latest podcast, “Moving Places, Managing Noise,” Ben Wakling is joined by Melanie A’Lee and Tom Quaife-Jones to explore how these two disciplines come together in practice. The discussion focuses on how early coordination between transport and noise specialists can improve scheme viability, reduce planning risk and ultimately create better places to live.

The Risk of Stalling Healthcare Projects

May 12, 2026

The Risks Stalling Healthcare Projects There's a version of every healthcare project that looks deliverable on paper. The site sits within the right catchment. It's in the strategic outline case. The ICS has signed off on the clinical model, the design team have done something genuinely thoughtful with the brief, and the project team is cautiously optimistic about hitting the OBC submission window. Then the ground investigation comes back… or the highways authority raises a junction capacity objection that nobody reviewed thoroughly during site selection. Or the drainage strategy is finalised two weeks before the planning committee, and the mitigation required has discreetly added seven figures to a capital budget that is already full of assumptions. This might be “just how things are”, but it’s important to remember that healthcare projects carry specific consequences that a delayed commercial scheme may not have.
