Clyst Honiton Bypass

Strategic highway and airport tunnel

Infrastructure & Civil Engineering
Development Management

Brookbanks completed the design and contract administration for this highway linking the A30 trunk road with the C832 in support of the strategic growth areas east of Exeter city. The route traverses the western boundary of Exeter International Airport and as a result, a new tunnel at the end of the runway needed to be provided, lying beneath the CAA Clearway for approaching planes, which had to be designed for landing forces associated with a Boing 787 Dreamliner.

The design avoided disruption to the airport and reduced costs through the use of pre-cast segmental arch units and retaining walls.

Our Infrastructure Group worked closely with the project sponsor, the highway authority and the Highways Agency to deliver this important link on time and within budget.
